Food Safety

The Food Bank of Eastern New Mexico is committed to upholding the highest standards for food safety. Food manufacturers recall their products when products are mislabeled or when food may present a health hazard to consumers because food is contaminated or has caused a foodborne illness outbreak.

Food Bank Recall Process

The Food Bank of Eastern New Mexico receives daily communication regarding food recalls. If a recalled product was distributed to our partner agencies, the agencies will be notified of the recall by email and/or phone. The product will also be removed and blocked from the Food Bank inventory. If the recalled product is found at the agency, partner agencies are asked to take the following action:

  • Do not eat the product

  • Dispose of the product carefully

  • Do not provide the product to others

  • Do not puncture or otherwise open cans

  • Wash hands with warm water and soap after handling the product
