Hurricane Harvey and how you can help

During disasters, Feeding America food banks like ours are often called upon to assist and to collect funds and food to provide to affected areas.  Currently, we along with other Feeding America food banks across the country, are encouraging the community to help in any of the following ways:

  1. The best way to help is to donate funds directly to any of the Feeding America food banks in the affected areas including:

Food Bank of Corpus Christi

Food Bank of the Golden Crescent

Houston Food Bank

Southeast Texas Food Bank

San Antonio Food Bank

  1. Donate funds to Feeding America as they coordinate and monitor disaster needs with the American Red Cross, NVOA, FEMA, and affected food banks in the area.

  1. For those wishing to donate food items, a list of requested items is included below.  Our food banks don’t have the capacity to pick up individual food donations, so we ask that any food or product donations for Hurricane Harvey relief effort be brought to your local food bank  including the Food Bank of Eastern New Mexico during their business hours (a link to the other  New Mexico food banks is provided below).  The Food Bank of Eastern New Mexico is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Fridays.

All donated product will be held in reserve until it is requested by Feeding America or the affected food banks.  Any product that is not sent to the affected food banks will be used for local emergency relief programs.  Food bank staff will coordinate transportation of donated product by Feeding America.

Requested Items:

  • Hand-held snack items such as granola bars
  • Pop-top ready-to-eat items
  • Shelf-stable pantry items (peanut butter, tuna, soup)
  • Bottled water
  • Cleaning supplies (bleach, non-bleach, paper towels, etc.)
  • Personal hygiene items (toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, )

  1. Food companies can contact Andy Knowlton at Roadrunner Food Bank to coordinate full trailer load donations of food items.

Please note that as our food banks are emergency food responders, we are unable to accept donations of clothing or furniture.
