The Food Bank of Eastern New Mexico will host a Flea Market from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday Aug. 3 at the Food Bank’s facility located at 2217 Brady Street in Clovis. The public is invited to the sale which will include house wares, office furniture and supplies, and other various items.
The inaugural event is a fundraiser for the Food Bank’s Backpack Program. The program sends food home with students who are in danger of not eating over the weekend when they are away from school. For the 2013-2014 school year, the Food Bank expects to send out over 17,000 Backpacks to schools in Curry, Roosevelt, De Baca and Guadalupe Counties.
“With the start of the school year drawing near the Food Bank is deep in preparations for a time during which we expect the need for Weekend Backpacks to increase. Funding for this program is crucial because the program meets a critical need to feed children in Eastern New Mexico,” said Food Bank Executive Director MelindaJoy Pattison.
Any groups or individuals who would like to donate their items to the sale are welcome to and can contact the Food Bank at 575-763-6130 to make arrangements. All proceeds from the event will go back to the Food Bank.
In its 30th year, the Food Bank of Eastern New Mexico partners with over 33 agencies and 24 schools in Curry, Roosevelt, De Baca, Quay and Guadalupe counties to distribute emergency food to families and individuals in need.
